Each hole is also individually sanded/tapered from the back, and this serves two purposes. 1) It gives the appearance that the mask is thinner than it is. 2) It provides better breathing ventilation/air movement when the mask is being worn. (see below)

Mask Info and Specifications
In order to provide the most accurate mask possible most masks come from their own individual mold that has a unique overall shape specifically for that mask. The back of each mask is primed and then painted gloss black.
